About me
My name is Alena Trainova and I am a qualified English to Russian legal and business translator with experience in the Translation and Interpreting industry since 2005.
A native Russian speaker I came to the UK from Belarus in 2000 as a student. I graduated from the Minsk State Linguistic University with BA in English and French, which I followed through with MA in Translation from the University of Westminster awarded in 2005.
After that, I began building my freelance network in London by providing pro bono translations in a human rights field. Over the years I translated hundreds of thousands of words both on pro bono and commercial basis. At the same time I expanded my experience in the UK corporate sector during my years as an in-house translator in shipping and blue-chip financial institutions. Then, in 2009 I joined a translation team in a leading immigration and human rights law practice in London where I worked for five years.
In 2011 I passed the exam to become a Qualified Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (MITI) with specialisation in the area of law.
At the end of 2014 I took the leap and went freelance full time.
In 2015 my family moved to Australia where I obtained certification from the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI CPN 4QQ49A) as a professional translator from English to Russian.
Over the years I developed a genuine interest in law and the human rights, so I embarked on a LLB course with the University of London of which I have now successfully completed seven units.
